Hello Advising Network,

Happy New Year!

I know it’s a busy week, so flag this and come back to it if you need to. Here's information about Office of the Registrar updates, professional development opportunities, advising international students, and more.

RO Updates

ServiceHub Frequently Asked Questions

The Current Students page is a great resource and includes links to the most common topics that students ask about in January, including information about refund requests, guaranteed scholarships, OSAP confirmation of enrolments and more. For other topics, submit your question to the ServiceHub Chatbot.

Course Drops and Program Withdrawals

The Course Drops and Program Withdrawals website provides a high-level summary and links to detailed information. For drop dates, important considerations and links on how to drop a course, visit the Drop a Course website.

Withdrawal Reminder

Students who do not plan to continue their studies at TMU in the winter 2026 term should be reminded that it is their responsibility to submit a short-term or permanent withdrawal request by the winter 2026 course drop deadlines. Students may not realize that their courses are automatically scheduled; failure to withdraw or drop courses will result in academic and financial consequences.

Refund Requests

Refund requests submitted between Tuesday, December 16, 2025 and Sunday, January 25, 2026 by students receiving OSAP funding, bursaries or other awards will be assessed beginning the week of January 26, 2026. Learn more about refunds.

CACUSS Academic Advising Summit 2026: Call for Proposals & Registration

CACUSS invites you to submit a proposal for the 2026 Academic Advising Summit, hosted virtually from April 21 - 23, 2026. As the higher education sector experiences ongoing shifts, academic advising remains a cornerstone of student thriving, retention, and institutional success. Find out more or register for the advising summit.

Advising International Students

TMU is proud to have over 4,800 international students studying across undergraduate and graduate programs, representing nearly 10% of our student community. You will likely connect with international students in your advising role.

A helpful practice is to start each advising appointment by asking whether a student is an international or domestic student. International students need to consider their immigration compliance when making decisions related to enrolling, dropping courses, or taking time off of their studies. Understanding a student’s status ensures your guidance aligns with both academic and immigration considerations.

What Advisors Should Know

When supporting international students, please encourage them to connect with International Student Support (ISS) before making decisions about course changes or time off. ISS is here to help students understand the impacts on immigration compliance and their academic pathway.

Let’s work together to provide comprehensive support to international students at TMU! For more information, check out International Student Support or contact issask@torontomu.ca.
