Academic Advisement Report
The start of term is a great time to remind students about the Academic Advisement Report (AAR). Information to share with students is available at the bottom of this newsletter.
The AAR is a tool for undergraduate students designed to:
Track completed, current, and required courses.
Assist and plan for course selections and meet degree requirements.
Verify the accuracy of their academic record, including transfer credits and course exceptions.
Stay updated on curriculum changes.
Ensure course choices align with curriculum and graduation eligibility requirements.
For more information, check out the Academic History Admin View Job Aid and materials from the workshop on using Academic Advisement Reports effectively.
Transferring Between TMU Programs
Students often ask how to switch majors or programs, and which courses will apply towards the new TMU program they wish to transfer to. If a student wants to transfer to a different program (e.g. Business Management to Biomedical Sciences), they must submit a TMU Application. If a current student is in a program that offers a choice of program plans (majors), they may be able to request a plan change (e.g. BA English to BA Sociology).
The MyServiceHub Support website provides detailed instructions on how to change your plan/major. If students have questions about applying for a new program, the ServiceHub can advise them on how to apply.
Transfer credit applications are only for courses completed at other institutions. TMU students who internally transfer to another program do not need to apply for transfer credits for previously completed TMU courses, including courses completed at The Chang School. Once matriculated into the new program, students can run their Advisement Report to determine how the courses they’ve previously completed (including Chang School courses) are being used to fulfill their new program requirements. If there are courses listed under the Non-Applicable section of the Advisement Report, consider submitting a course exception.
Students who received transfer credits towards their former program should contact the Transfer Credit Unit (tcredits@torontomu.ca) to have those credits reassessed and applied toward their new TMU program. Find more details about internal Toronto Metropolitan University course transfers.
Student CommunicationsUndergraduate students receive three emails from the ServiceHub helping them to prepare for the fall term.
Emails were also sent to all Law School students on August 14 and Graduate Studies students on August 25 with information on preparing for the fall term.
Confirming Attendance for Fall
Each fall, the RO takes steps to confirm that students are planning to attend for the upcoming school year. These proactive measures remind students to formally withdraw if they do not intend to continue, since students remain academically and financially responsible for any course enrolments created through course intentions unless they withdraw.
As part of these activities, students logging into MyServiceHub will receive a pop-up message from August 12 to September 12 asking them to confirm one of the following:
I am planning to attend Toronto Metropolitan University.
I will be on a co-op work term, internship, or exchange.
I will not be attending and understand it is my responsibility to withdraw from my program.
Students who are not attending must be advised to follow the correct withdrawal procedures. Note that new students may cancel their admission or defer their application until the first day of classes.
