September 2026

Hello Advising Network,

It’s that special time of year again — a time for fresh starts, new opportunities and renewed momentum.

Below, you’ll find updates, important dates and resources to share with your students.

RO Updates

Academic Advisement Report

The start of term is a great opportunity to remind students to check their Academic Advisement Report (AAR). Information to share with students is available at the bottom of this newsletter.

The AAR is a tool for undergraduate students designed to:

  • Track completed, current, and required courses.

  • Assist and plan for course selections and meet degree requirements.

  • Verify the accuracy of their academic record, including transfer credits and course exceptions.

  • Stay updated on curriculum changes.

  • Ensure course choices align with curriculum and graduation eligibility requirements.

For more information, check out How to View My Advisement Report.

Program Changes and Transfer Credits

Students who are considering a change of program or major should be directed to the appropriate application and transfer credit processes below.

Changing Programs or Majors

  • Changing programs: Students who want to transfer to a different program (e.g., Business Management to Biomedical Sciences) must submit a TMU Application

  • Changing majors/plans: Students whose program offers multiple plans (e.g., BA English to BA Sociology) may be able to request a plan change. Find How to Change Your Plan/Major.

  • Students with questions about applying to a new program can contact the ServiceHub.

Transfer Credits

  • Courses completed at TMU: No transfer credit application is required, including for courses completed through The Chang School.

  • Courses from other institutions: Students must submit a transfer credit application. If they previously received transfer credits toward their former program, they should contact the Transfer Credit Unit at tcredits@torontomu.ca to have the credits reassessed for their new program.

  • Once enrolled (matriculated) in the new program, students can run their Advisement Report to review how previously completed TMU courses and awarded transfer credits apply towards their new program.

  • If a course appears under Non-Applicable, consider submitting a course exception.

For more information, check out Internal Toronto Metropolitan University Course Transfers.

Student Communications

Undergraduate students receive three emails from the ServiceHub helping them to prepare for the fall term.

Emails were also sent to all Law School students on July 28 and Graduate Studies students on August 25 with information on preparing for the fall term.

Confirming Attendance for Fall

Each fall, the RO reminds students to confirm their plans to attend TMU. Students who do not plan to return must formally withdraw to avoid academic and financial responsibility for course enrolments created through course intentions.

From August 7 to September 18, students logging into MyServiceHub will find a pop-up asking them to confirm whether they:

  • Plan to attend TMU

  • Will be on a co-op, internship, or exchange

  • Will not attend and understand they are responsible for withdrawing

Students who are not attending should follow the appropriate withdrawal procedures.

New students: Students may cancel their admission or defer their application until the first day of classes.

Dean’s List Award

The Dean’s List award will be assessed for the spring/summer term based on the following criteria:

  • Full-time program students: Completed 4 billing units in the spring/summer term, and met all of the other award criteria.

  • Part-time program students: Completed 4 billing until over the 2025-2026 academic year (i.e. fall 2025, winter 2026 and spring/summer 2026 terms), and met all of the other award criteria.

Dean's List Eligibility & Consideration

  • Eligibility is determined the second week of September.

  • For special requests, use the Dean’s List Special Consideration Form found on the Dean’s List Landing Page.

  • For fall graduates, these requests must be submitted by the third week of September.

Visit the Dean’s List Landing Page and Dean’s List Award Overview for details.

Full-Time and Part-Time Enrolment Status

Full-time undergraduate fees are assessed based on billing units. Students are considered full-time if they are enrolled in a minimum of 4.0 billing units each term.

Enrolment Status and International Students

When advising students, please be aware that the course-load requirements for determining full-time and part-time status differ from those for domestic students. Understanding the applicable definition is important, as a student’s enrolment status may have implications for their immigration status and eligibility for certain benefits and supports.

Academic advisors are encouraged to refer international students to International Student Support (ISS) for guidance specific to their circumstances.

Enrolment Status and OSAP

Full-time and part-time course-load requirements for OSAP may also differ.

Students taking three or more courses per term (or two or more courses per term if they have a disability), can apply for full-time OSAP. Students taking fewer courses per term must apply for part-time OSAP. To learn more, please visit our newly-updated Student Financial Assistance website.
